Ruffwear Harness Whippet
Ruffwear Harness Whippet

Ruffwear harness is best for active dogs and their owners.

This harness was built to help maneuver dogs over obstacles and working pets.

So, if you love hiking and getting out in nature, this is the best harness for you and your whipWhippete Ruffwear. Harness Whippet is a supportive, secure, multi-use harness with a robust back handle.

This safe hardness is remarkable for “Houdini Dogs” as it makes getting them backstrap past the ribs almost impossible. It is entirely adjustable and is long on the body, making it virtually impossible for your pet to get out when worn snugly and rightly.

This design also gives support and security for tripod or 3-legged dogs.

Durable, thick foam offers support without hindering the range of motion. Five points of adjustments make a secure fit, while padded chest and belly straps make the harness relax for all-day wear.

The Ruffwear is a great collar alternative, perfect for scrambling, hiking, and mobility assistance.

  • 5 Points Of Adjustments For A Snug Fit

  • 2 Points Of Leash Link: Anodized Aluminium V-ring, Single-piece, And Also The Webbing Loop
  • Low Light Visibility along With Reflective Trim & Light Loop For Fastening The Beacon

Pros Of Ruffwear Harnesses Whippet Dog

  • That additional strap makes harness impossible for almost any dog to escape from this Ruffwear harnesses whippet dog as soon as it is properly fitted.
  • Its design is the most significant contributor to even distribution in this Ruffwear harnesses whippet dog.
  • This Ruffwear harnesses whippet dog is padded and soft
  • The harness handle on top is precious on technical or rough terrain. Being capable of “spotting” and helping any dogs on boulder-strewn trails or downhill/steep-up sections is essential. It even makes loading, unloading, as well as any other kind of routine or crisis life so much more comfortable
  • The additional strap delivers extra force distribution
  • Lifting your Whippet, if required, is less painful on the body due to that additional strap supporting the middle region. You would not be capable of doing that with a traditional body harness that is placed exclusively on the dog’s front half
  • The nylon-made straps are adjustable and durable.
  • Great for hiking your dog out with you, particularly in front of you.

Cons Of Ruffwear Harnesses Whippet Dog

  • Often the adjuster sliders of the harness straps do not hold their place. Although I have not experienced such a thing on my Ruffwear harnesses whippet dog (yet), several customers are using other Ruffwear harness models that usually encounter this issue. Not a big problem to have while the harness loosens when your Whippet pulls. So, you can neglect this one.
  • Even though Ruffwear harnesses for whippet dog costs around $60 to $80 based on the retailer, I think the materials used in this harness are a little bit cheap. They could certainly be upgraded or improved with this price.
  • The connection points of the Ruffwear harnesses whippet dog could be enhanced. The lightweight direct clip-points for the leash are not ideally where you may want it to be placed for best ergonomics.
  • Another downside is that the rear attachment point of this harness is not made using a metal clip point. It is made using a tiny nylon loop. However, it still works well, but then again, the material could have been improved with this price tag.
  • Ruffwear harnesses whippet dogs could use protection for the straps’ ends. I have not taken the time to rig something yet, but having some keeper to secure or tuck in the straps’ ends would be helpful. As my Whippet frequently jumps into water or mud, I have nothing but tolerate those dirty wet straps flapping about.

Why should my dog wear a harness over a collar?

If your pet is a puller or an escape artist, or if you are lifting or training your dog, your pet should probably wear a harness. When pets pull on an available collar, they tend to choke themselves.

All that force on their trachea can destroy it and cause breathing issues. Harnesses are much safer and more relaxed for pull pets, as they distribute power across a more extensive, less sensitive area (the chest).

How to measure Ruffwear harness whippet?

Pet harnesses have no standard dimensions; a medium-sized pet from one firm could be considered an extra-large at another.

Before you can pick the correct harness for your dog, you will need to take a few measurements.

Chest

Calculate the most significant part of your pet’s chest using a soft tape measure, calculate the most significant part o your pet’s. Starting at the base of their rib cage, bring the tape up and over their back, then back down where you start.

Weight

Your dog’s weight can help you plan which harness will be powerful enough for them to wear. With another dog harness, a dog twenty pounds over its weight restriction could break them when lunging or pulling after a squirrel.

Neck

You will need to know your pet’s neck size for some types of hardness. To get this number, wrap your tape measure around the thick part of your pet’s neck.

How should a dog harness fit?

There are many dog harnesses, each with a different fit and style. In general, a dog harness should fit snugly but not too tight.

It should be fit enough that your dog cannot back out of it, and the ring should sit higher on its chest. Just like with a collar, you should be capable of fitting two fingers between the harness and your pet.

Signs your Ruffwear dog harness is not fitting right

Your dog’s harness is not working right if:

  • They are chafing in the armpits or around the harness
  • They can wiggle or step out of it
  • They are losing hair/fur around the harness area
  • The chest strap loosens on your walk
  • The back piece rotates to the side

If your pet is resistant to walking or putting up a fight when it is time to put on their harness, it might be because the saddle does not fit perfectly.

Why a right fit matters

Not only can a bad-fitting Ruffwear harness cause your dog discomfort and pose a safety problem for pets who can wiggle out and break free, but it can also cause medical issues.

If your pet’s harness is too tight/little, it can limit their natural movements. Their stride gets thrown out of whack, and they use their muscles badly, causing unnecessary worry in their bones and joints.

Should I pick plastic or metal buckles?

Plastic buckles are simple to fasten – best if you are parenting a pet who is just a walker and enjoys light exercise.

For those dogs on the more dynamic side or buying a harness for car travel, metal buckles are more robust and would not pinch.

Should I go with a step-in or over-head harness?

Shaped like Figure 8, step-in harnesses are simple but less safe if not fitted correctly.

Over-head harnesses slide over your pet’s head to be secured around their back and tend to have extra padding and more adjustment choices. This means they are simple to put on older or wriggly dogs.

Important note

Australian law requires dogs to be secured with a Ruffwear harness when traveling in a vehicle.

Several harnesses can be clipped onto the seat belts for security and safety and by the law.
